The section “History & Territory” starts with our ancestor Accardo Guarini. A jump back in the past centuries to discover characters who actually lived in the County of Lecce, around the year one thousand. Through historical documents we would like to share with you the events that have tied our family to the history of our territory and agriculture. We are at the time of the Kingdom of Sicily and the Duchy of Apulia, under Tancred of Hauteville, Count of Lecce and King of Sicily, the last representative of the ancestry that had formed them. One of the most important kingdoms, formed after many years of conquests in southern Italy by Norman adventurers, heirs of Rollo the Viking. In the year 1016 forty Norman pilgrims, returning from the Holy Land, stop in the Church of St Michael the Archangel in Monte Sant’Angelo on the Gargano, one of the most important pilgrimage places in Europe, built and consecrated in 400 AD by Bishop Laurenzio Siponto. In the shadows of the cave they are approached by Melo, a Langobardic whose only mission in life is the independence of his people from Byzantium, which at the time had an uncontested domination over the whole southern Italy. He asks the intervention of the Normans, urging to involve as many Knights as possible to achieve this challenge, and in exchange he promises land and wealth.
