La Piazza a Poggiardo (Le)
Poggiardo is a town at about 40 kilometers from Lecce, with many churches, ancient palaces and beautiful squares, like the central one overlooking La Piazza,a small restaurant with a secret garden inside, where to dine in summer, undisputed realm of the chef Stefano Nuzzo and his wife Klejda Dilo, who was born in Tirana and has been in Italy for more than 20 years. She welcomes the guests in the restaurant, he is behind the stove, to prepare traditional dishes revisited with originality. He can cook the oily fish as few and he loves searching for the best produces that he selects with care. On the menu he mentions his trusted suppliers, from the peasants where he finds seasonal vegetables, to the fisherman of Castro who supplies him with fish, from fresh pasta maker to the local butcher. In winter you dine in an intimate and cozy room, in the fine weather there is the court with a centuries-old olive tree and the citrus grove, very comfortable. The starters are rich, with selection of pumpkin flowers filled with ricotta, sardine in breadcrumbs with green beans and sun –dried tomatoes, parmesan with Atlantic bonito, potato pita, savory pie with cabbage, cod, yogurt cream and mozzarella. Delicious are the main courses, such the barley with mussels, shrimp and squid, and among the second course, the tasty blue fish rolls with crushed potatoes, capers and homemade yogurt. Not to be missed, for dessert, a must of the restaurant, the almond dumpling with ricotta cheese and candied orange.
